I am confused here. Wasn't this where the first nuclear weapons were tested? If so, why isn't that mentioned in the article?

You are probably thinking of what was then called the White Sands Proving Grounds, which was operated by the Army, as opposed to this facility which is operated by NASA. The connection between the two is described at White_Sands_Missile_Range#NASA_use. (sdsds - talk) 04:52, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
